Teaching Language Variation in the Global Classroom

    Graduate Research Assistant

During my time as a Graduate Research Assistant, I had the immense pleasure and opportunity to provide copyediting, proofreading, and indexing assistance to the book Teaching English Language Variation in the Global Classroom by Dr. Michelle D. Devereaux and Dr. Chris Palmer. In this role, I received first-hand experience on the steps involved in bringing a manuscript from draft to final concept by creating the index, copyediting multiple versions of the manuscript to ensure consistency, and proofreading for any last minute discrepancies. This was a project where I was able to implement my love of education with my passion for editing.

Finding Their Chrysanthemum: Linguistic Representation in Children's Literature

For my master's thesis I explored linguistic representation in children's literature and the publishing industry's response to diversity within the #OwnVoices movement. Combining both primary and secondary research methods, this capstone addresses topics involving what it means to "speak American," what diversity really means, and harmful gatekeeping practices that inhibit true growth within publishing as a whole.

  • A Little About Myself

“After nourishment, shelter and companionship, stories are the thing we need most in the world.” ― Philip Pullman

Books have been my world for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I flipped through every book I could get my little hands on. I was a sponge, constantly absorbing words and stories and pictures. Some of my best childhood memories involve me walking up and down old bookstores, or adding "extensions" to stories, changing how a story ended or should have continued. Books have been a place of refuge and creativity to me, and I hope to share that passion for literature in the work I produce.

In 2015 I received my bachelor's degree in communications with a focus in public relations, and a minor in marketing at Kennesaw State University. In May 2022, I graduated from KSU again, this time with a master's in professional writing and a certificate in editing and publishing. I currently work full-time as an editorial assistant at Routledge, an academic publisher, where I assist the education list and its editors with prepping books for production.

I currently reside in Marietta, Georgia, with my husband and two cats. If I'm not downloading another book onto my Kindle or cooking a new gluten-free recipe, I am hiking in the North Georgia mountains or exploring new coffee shops across metro Atlanta.
